“Facebook has become a unique way people share and congratulate friends around exciting life events such as engagements and weddings or the arrival of a child,” a Facebook spokesperson told VentureBeat. “To make it easier to keep up with these momentous occasions and to ensure you can share in your friends’ joy, we are rolling out a ‘Weddings and Celebrations’ feature. Beginning today, special events starting with engagements and weddings will be displayed along with friends’ birthdays when you log into Facebook.” Coming down to the special highlights of the feature, there shall be a special story especially for engagements and weddings which will be displayed on every user’s homepage just like there has been one for birthdays in the past. At present, updates are being passed out to users, with everyone getting the new notifications at some point today. Similar to that of birthday notifications, this new feature too will appear on the right hand side of the screen. The members can click on click on celebration story to view a fly out window and get involved in the occasion. They can also leave a message on the friend’s Facebook timeline. The important part of this feature is that notifications will appear on the user’s homepage and not as a part of new Events calendar. Once you have had a look at the story, it will disappear on its own. However, the user can also choose to remove it. Last but not the least if more than one of user’s friends is celebrating their anniversary or engagement on the same datethen Facebook will randomly rotate the stories displayed on the homepage. Though this is not a very big change that Facebook has adapted, yet it is definitely a help to its purpose of bringing people together.
