According to the Tweet posted by the company, remote charging technology can charge multiple devices simultaneously and will recharge a smartphone that’s being used, “while walking around or even when something’s in the way.” The initial model of Mi Air Charge technology is believed tohave the power to deliver5W remote charging for a single device falling within a radius of several metres. The company has clarified that users can also chargeseveral devices simultaneously with each of them supporting 5W using the same technology. Currently the company has demonstrated the new technology for smartphones, but has also stated that the wireless experience will also work with smart watches, bracelets, and other wearables in the coming future
How does Mi Air Charging Technology Works?
Still in the concept phase, with the new air charging technology, the Xiaomi Mi Air Charge will be able to charge multiple devices “within a radius of several metres” — and even with physical obstacles. This means users will; now be able to enjoy truly wireless charging experience as it will charge your smartphone over the air.In order to enable the new wireless charging experience, Xiaomi has developed an in-house isolated charging pile with a phase control array consisting of 144 antennas transmitting millimetre-wide waves. These waves enter the smartphone that requires charging through beamforming. The charging pile also carries five phase interference antennas to understand the location of the smartphone. Since Xiaomi is using a proprietary technology infrastructure, the smartphones that will be able to benefit from Mi Air Charge will require an antenna array with a built-in beacon antenna and receiving antenna array. The receiving antenna array composed of 14 antennas converts the millimetre wave signal emitted by the charging pile into electric energy through the rectifier circuit, to turn the sci-fi charging experience into reality.”
