What is extended reality?
Extended reality is the umbrella term that encompasses all real-and-virtual environments along with human-machine interactions using wearables and computer technology. Representative forms like mixed reality, augmented reality and virtual reality are included in it, and also the areas interpolated amid them. Watch this YouTube video:
About the initiative
An initiative of MeitY, the MeitY Startup Hub or MSH is a national platform that focuses its energy on promoting start-ups, technology innovation, and the conception as well as the making of intellectual properties. The MSH has already supported over 3000 tech start-ups. Its vision and mission include supporting more than 10000 start-ups in the next three to five years. The XR support and acceleration program has been announced on 13th September 2022 in the presence of Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the incumbent Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and Information Technology of India, and Vice President, Global Policy Meta, Joel Kaplan.
Statements by the ministry
The Ministry of Electronics and IT on 12th September 2022 stated, “This collaboration is part of the Government’s efforts for skilling in emerging and future technologies.” According to the ministry, India has carved a niche to play an important role in the metaverse with a massive pool of talented developers and creators supported by a vibrant technology ecosystem. The department added, “The world looks to it for supply technology, innovation and talent to cater to the greater demand for digital products.” It would be a great experience to be a part of this collaboration and see India flourish further in the technology sector.
